In order to let the general public discover their important WWI collections, the State Archives repositories in Wallonia have set up a joint platform: the new website http://14-18-wallonie.arch.be

On 4 august 1914 the German army invaded Belgium. 100 years later, official commemorations are organised throughout the country. For the Belgian State Archives, the interest in WWI is not new. Our institution has been studying the Great War for years and produced many publications on the subject.

This selection of WWI documents is centred around the common people and daily life, and ranges from letters to posters, photographs, official reports and much more. Today, some 100 documents are already online. Many more will be added in the coming months and years to this virtual exhibition.

Navigating through this website is easy. The documents can be viewed in chronological order via tags or key terms. Each record has a precise description and reference to the archival holding in which it is conserved. This way, you can identify the State Archives repository where the document can be found and carry out further research in the reading room.

As a virtual visitor on http://14-18-wallonie.arch.be you are kept informed and updated about publications and events related to the 100-year commemorations of the First World War in Wallonia.
